Balayage & Highlights
Balayage and highlights in Denver
Balayage is a way of highlighting where your stylist paints lightener onto the hair by hand instead of wrapping it in foil. Brightness lands where the sun would put it, and the grow-out line stays soft. Foiled highlights lift more evenly from root to end for a brighter, more uniform result. Plenty of clients end up with a mix of the two. Your stylist looks at your starting shade and how often you want to come back, then recommends the approach that fits.
Color + highlights $180–$210 · Balayage from $220

All-Over Color
All-over color, root retouch and gloss
All-over color is one shade applied from root to end to change or deepen your color, and it is how most clients cover gray. After that, a root retouch colors only the new growth, so your lengths are not processed again every visit. A gloss between appointments brings back tone and shine when color starts to look dull or brassy. If a past color went wrong, corrective work starts with a consultation so your stylist can see your hair before planning the formula and the time.

Your color is planned with the 695 Squad, Salon 695’s own in-house team, starting from your first consultation through every retouch after it. They also map out what happens after you leave: when to come back for a retouch or gloss, and how to look after your shade at home.

Your appointment
What happens at a hair color appointment
-
01
A conversation first
Bring photos of color you like and tell us what your hair has been through, whether that is box dye, lightener or a shade you grew out. Your stylist also asks how much upkeep you want before choosing a formula.
-
02
A formula for your starting shade
Your stylist mixes your formula for the color your hair is now, not for a swatch on a chart in a binder. If you have reacted to hair dye before, tell us when you book, since dermatologists advise a patch test before coloring.
-
03
A plan for between visits
You leave every color appointment knowing exactly when to come back for a retouch or gloss and what products to use at home. Denver's dry climate pulls moisture out of colored hair, so a shampoo and conditioner made for color-treated hair matters more here. We carry R+Co BLEU, Milbon and Zenagen in the salon if you want a recommendation.
Planning more length as well? Your stylist can match extensions to your new color in the same consultation.
Sensitive scalps
Hair color for sensitive scalps and dye reactions in Denver
If hair dye has ever irritated your scalp or skin, tell us when you book. We patch test before coloring, and your colorist plans the formula around what you tell us about past reactions. We color with R+Co BLEU and Milbon, and the front desk can tell you more about each.

Hair color FAQs
What is the difference between balayage and highlights?
Balayage is color painted on by hand in soft, irregular strokes, so it grows out gently without a hard line at the root. Highlights use foils to lift strands more evenly from root to end. Your stylist can combine the two, for example brighter pieces around your face with softer color through the back.
How much does balayage cost in Denver?
Balayage at Salon 695 is priced from $220. Color with highlights runs $180 to $210, and all-over color $100 to $120. Each stylist sets their own rate, so your exact price is confirmed when you book. Every service is listed in the color price table.
How long does a color appointment take?
It depends on your starting shade, your hair length and the service you choose. Balayage or a full head of highlights needs more chair time than all-over color. The front desk confirms your appointment time when you book.
How do I choose a colorist in Denver?
Ask how much color work they do and whether you will see the same person each visit. The independent beauty pros at Salon 695 average 12+ years behind the chair, and you can stay with one from visit to visit. Starting color prices are posted on this page, so you know the range before you book.
Who will color my hair at Salon 695?
The 695 Squad, Salon 695's in-house team, or an independent beauty pro you pick. Read about the 695 Squad, or look through the independent beauty pros to find someone whose color work you like. The front desk at 303-777-8282 can also make the match for you.
What helps hair color last longer in Denver's climate?
Cool water, a shampoo and conditioner made for color-treated hair, and a heat protectant before styling all slow fading. Denver’s dry climate dries colored hair faster, so a weekly conditioning treatment is worth adding. When your tone starts to dull, a gloss between appointments brings it back.
Do I need a consultation before a big color change?
Usually, yes. For balayage, going much lighter or fixing a past color, a short consultation lets your stylist plan the formula and the time first. You can request a consultation online or call 303-777-8282.
Can you fix hair color that went wrong?
Yes. Corrective color starts with a consultation, so your stylist can see your hair, hear what has been on it and plan the steps. Every correction is different, so it is priced by consultation rather than from a set list. Call 303-777-8282 to set one up.
Do you do a patch test before coloring?
Yes. Tell us when you book if you have reacted to hair dye before, and we patch test before coloring.
Which hair color lines do you use?
We color with R+Co BLEU and Milbon, a Japanese hair color line. Ask the front desk about either when you book.
Can I get a haircut at the same appointment?
Yes. Most of our stylists both cut and color, so you can book the two together. A haircut runs $70 to $100, and our haircut prices include men's and children's cuts if you are booking for family.
